Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth for Sonisphere festival

'The Big 4' are set to descend on Sonisphere today (July 8)

Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth are set to appear in the UK as ‘The Big 4’ for the first time today (July 8) at Sonisphere.

The bands who toured mainland Europe together in 2010, but did not include the UK on their schedule, are all set to play the Knebworth event’s Apollo Stage today, culminating in Metallica‘s first appearance in the UK since 2009.

Also on the bill today are Rolo Tomassi, Blood Red Shoes, My Passion and Diamond Head, who is cited by all of ‘The Big 4’ as a key influence.

Metallica headline the Apollo Stage at Sonisphere tonight. Check NME.COM for a full report after the set.

Sonisphere continues tomorrow (July 9) with sets from Weezer, All Time Low, Gallows and a headline show from Biffy Clyro.
