The acts pitch in to help on vocals after James Hetfield injures his back...

Metallica vocalist JAMES HETFIELD was forced to pull out of three US dates last week – but Korn and KID ROCK stepped in to provide vocals in his absence.

Hetfield was taken to hospital in Atlanta after sustaining a back injury last Friday (July 7). He was unable to play that night’s show at the Atlanta Georgia Dome, but instead of cancelling the show, members of Korn and Kid Rock, along with Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, deputised for Hetfield.

Hetfield was also unable to sing at further dates at Kentucky and Dallas.

To make up for Hetfield‘s absence, Metallica have announced three free shows where disappointed fans can see the full band.

The rescheduled dates are at:Columbus Buckeye Lake (2) Atlanta Georgia Dome (4) Dallas Texas Stadium (6)

Fans with their original ticket stubs will be honoured for the new shows.

Metallica‘s current US tour has not gone smoothly. In addition to Hetfield‘s cancelled shows, a 21 year-old man fell 80 feet to his death at a concert in Baltimore on July 4.

Metallica issued a statement saying they were “absolutely devastated” by the death.
