Metallica, who play Milton Keynes Big Day Out (July 10) along with Marilyn Manson, Placebo, Queens Of The Stone Age, Monster Magnet and Pitchshifter, release a new single on June 14 called ‘Die Die My Darling’.
The single will contain over 20 minutes of music and will not therefore be chart elligible. The main track was written by enigmatic Satanist rocker Glen Danzig and released as a single by the Misfits in 1984; Metallica covered it on their double covers album ‘Garage Inc’.
The single is backed with a cover of Black Sabbath‘s ‘Sabbra Cadabra’, from 1973’s ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ album and a live medley of Mercyful Fate songs – ‘Satan’s Fall’, ‘Curse of the Pharaohs’, ‘A Corpse Without Soul’, ‘Into The Coven’ and ‘Evil’ – (originally recorded by Mercyful Fate on the ‘Mercyful Fate EP’). The Metallica versions were recorded live at the Roseland Ballroom, New York on November 24 1996. Mercyful Fate, the King Diamond-fronted band seen as one of the main influences on the black metal scene, also join Metallica at the Big Day Out.
