Jason Newsted will not be replaced until the band start work on their new album...

METALLICA won’t start looking for a replacement for departed bassist JASON NEWSTED until at least APRIL.

Speaking following the Grammy Awards in LA on Wednesday evening (February 21), drummer Lars Ulrich said the band plan to start working on their new album in April, which is when a replacement for Newsted will be sought.

According to [url=]www.sonicnet.com, Ulrich commented: “We’ll start thinking about it then.”

As previously revealed on NME.COM, Newsted left the band last month, citing “private and personal reasons, and the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love” as the major reasons for his departure.

Newsted was with the band for 14 years, joining from Flotsam And Jetsam in the autumn of 1986 following the death of original bassist Cliff Burton. He played on six Metallica albums, helping the group sell 55 million records worldwide.
