A behind the scenes video for Metronomy’s ‘I’m Aquarius’ promo has been released.
Click above to watch the video, which shows how the 1970s sci-fi themed promo for the band’s new single was made, with commentary from director Edouard Salier, in conjunction with The Creators Project. The video sees Joe Mount of the band piloting a small spaceship and landing on a planet, encountering giant hairless cats and alien goddesses. “It’s so hard to create an original science fiction movie since the whole genre’s been mopped around in every direction,” says Salier in the new footage. “I wanted to do something very slow and contemplative, taking place in a very colourful and artistic universe.”
Salier added that he wanted to stay away from the Hollywood blockbuster “vibe” and didn’t want to use CGI or 3D effects, instead favouring vintage methods of creating outer space for film, making models and handcrafting backdrops.
‘I’m Aquarius’ comes from Metronomy’s fourth album, ‘Love Letters’, which will be released on March 10, 2014. It follows 2011’s ‘The English Riviera’.
