MGMT have released a new video teasing their cassette single ‘Alien Days’ – scroll down to watch it.
The single is one of a number of special releases for this year’s Record Store Day, which takes place this Saturday (April 20). The stop motion clip sees the cassette single – or cassingle, as some call them – creeping out from beneath a pile of cassettes and inserting itself into a car stereo. A sock puppet then drives a convertible car into space. Business as usual for MGMT, then. The clip also features a snippet of the song, which seems to be psychedelic rock in the style of the band’s divisive second album ‘Congratulations’.
The band’s Andrew VanWyngarden recently said that ‘Alien Days’ is about “that feeling when a parasitic alien is in your head, controlling things”. ‘Alien Days’ was debuted at a live show in April 2012, and the song will feature on MGMT’s third studio album, which will reportedly come out in June of this year. The LP is the follow-up to ‘Congratulations’, and was recorded over the past year in a cabin in Buffalo, New York. Speaking about the record, Ben Goldwasser said: “We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it.”
