MGMT watched by Klaxons and Kaisers at London show

Plus New York duo's next gig set for webcast

Hotly-tipped Brooklyn space rockers MGMT attracted a star-studded audience for their first headlining UK show in London last night (March 5).

Members of Klaxons and Kaiser Chiefs all turned out to see the New York band perform tracks from their forthcoming debut album ‘Oracular Spectacular’ at the ICA.

The duo were backed by three other band members throughout their set, which kicked off with a guitar driven version of ‘Weekend Wars’.

Singer Andrew Vanwyngarden said very little throughout the show apart from greeting the crowd and revealing that ‘The Handshake’ was about “signing to a record label”.

The band later peformed their signature single ‘Time To Pretend’ before Vanwyngarden took over drum duties for ‘The Youth’.

Bizarrely the lights came up during the two encores, prompting many fans to filter out of the venue.

However, many came streaming back for ‘Kids’, which saw just Vanwyngarden and keyboardist Ben Goldwasser returning to the stage while their drummer played a brief guitar solo.

MGMT played:

‘Weekend Wars’

‘The Handshake’

‘Future Reflections’

‘4th Dimensional Transition’

‘Pieces Of What’

‘Electric Feel’

‘Time To Pretend’

‘Of Moons, Birds & Monsters’

‘The Youth’

‘Oracular Spectacular’ is out next Monday (March 10). Meanwhile the band’s gig in Amsterdam is set to be webcast live tonight from 9pm (GMT). Go to for more information.
