Artist teases new track 'Finally' from upcoming fifth album
MIA has said that she thinks about leaking her new album “every day”.
The controversial artist, who last week confirmed she has finished work on her fifth record, spoke to fans via Periscope yesterday (May 9). During the chat MIA previewed a new song ‘Finally’, which can be heard below.
Pitchfork reports that MIA told her Periscope viewers that she will no longer be calling the new album ‘Matahdatah’ and that it could arrive at any time. “I would love to leak it,” she is quoted as saying. “I wake up every day and think I’m gonna leak it.”
The only thing stopping her from leaking the album, she said, is a desire to work alongside her label on making this new record commercially succesful. “I can always do that for the rest of my life. If I carry on making music, then I would do that, but I also want to find an album where I can actually make my label work for me.”
The UK artist has been working on the record for the past few years and has released songs including ‘Borders’ and ‘Rewear It’ in that period. The album will be the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Matangi’ and her fifth LP to date.
Tweeting about her album last week, MIA referred to the album as her “last LP”, though that could be a reference to it being the last album she owes her US label, Interscope, as part of her contract.
MIA recently teamed up with H&M, penning her song ‘Rewear It’ for World Recycle Week. World Recycle Week took place this year between April 18-24. The clothing chain is encouraging customers to recycle unwanted clothes at its stores.
