Michael Eavis to give 500 free Glastonbury tickets to trainee NHS nurses

The Worthy Farm owner's gesture is in response to the nursing recruitment crisis

Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has announced that he will offer up to 500 free tickets to local trainee nurses for next year’s festival.

According to Somerset Live, Eavis spoke at Shepton Mallet’s hospital fete earlier this month (July 21) after the chairman of the local trust reportedly told him that there was “a real problem with the lack of nurses being trained now.”

To help with the issue, Eavis decided that up to 500 local trainee nurses could visit the festival in 2019 for free. The cost of a ticket in 2017 was £238.

At the event, the Worthy Farm owner thanked the “timeless work” of the doctors and nurses in Somerset who had taken care of the local community.

Meanwhile, speculation about who will headline Glastonbury in 2019 continues. Earlier this month, Emily Eavis said plans for the Glastonbury 2019 line-up were going well, revealing that the Legend’s slot will be a “non-British female” and that Paul McCartney is ‘top of their list’ to headline.

“We’ve done our first draft of the Pyramid Stage” Eavis told Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2. “We’re drafting in a few other stage headliners…We’re making progress.”

Other artists rumoured to appear include Madonna, Arctic Monkeys, ABBA, The Cure, Fleetwood Mac, Taylor Swift, Oasis and Kendrick Lamar. Michael Eavis said that the 2019 headliners will be “two or three [acts] that have never played”.

Meanwhile Eavis also said that Culture Club would be a ‘great idea’ to play the legend’s slot next year. The band have today (July 31) released their first new material in twenty years with ‘Let Somebody Love You.’

The free ticket offer is open to anyone who lives in the Mendip area and who has enrolled on a nursing course in 2018.

People meeting this criteria are being asked to send their Glastonbury registration number, a copy of their 2018 graduation certificate and proof of working in the NHS in Somerset to ticketing@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk
