JLS stay at Number One

Plus Michael Jackson becomes longest serving album chart topper of 2009

JLS have retained their position at the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart with their debut ‘Beat Again’.

The self-made boyband, who shot to fame last year as runners up on The X Factor, stay at Number One for the second week running holding off Mr Hudson, whose single ‘Supernova’, features vocals from their superstar label boss Kanye West.

Elsewhere in the Official UK Album Charts, Michael Jackson has also become the longest serving artist at the top so far in 2009.

While ‘The Essential’ equals Lady Gaga‘s album ‘Fame’, which is at three this week, for four weeks at the top, Jackson‘s other hits package ‘Number Ones’ has also spent a week at number one giving him a total to date of five weeks at the top, according to The Official Charts Company.

Jackson now has 10 albums in the Top 50 – five of which are in this week’s Top 20, including new entry ‘The Collection’, a five-album box set featuring ‘Off The Wall’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Bad’, ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Invincible’ at 14, and nine in the Top 40.

In the singles chart he has a total of 23 in the Top 200, one in the Top 20 (‘Man In The Mirror), two in this week’s Top 40 and eight in this week’s Top 75.

Florence And The Machine remains at Number Two with ‘Lungs’ for the third week running following her Mercury Prize nomination.
