Investigation launched into possible ‘criminal aspects’ of Michael Jackson memorial

City of Los Angeles may have misspent taxpayers' money

An investigation into the city of Los Angeles‘ expenditures on Michael Jackson‘s memorial service in downtown LA on July 7 has reportedly been launched by the Los Angeles City Attorney.

City Attorney Carmen Trutanich told the City Council that investigators have interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence, and the probe “raises both civil and criminal aspects,” reports the Associated Press.

Trutanich also said his office has been in touch with AEG, the company that owns the Staples Center where the memorial was held. He did not disclose any further details of the probe.

The financially troubled city has come under fire for spending what some believe is an excessive amount of money on seemingly unnecessary items, such as lunch for the officers, which was ordered from a restaurant 70 miles away.
