Michelle Branch and The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney are expecting their first child

The couple - who started dating while working on Branch's April 2017 album 'Hopeless Romantic' - got engaged last year

Michelle Branch and her partner Patrick Carney have announced that they are expecting their first child together.

Branch and The Black Keys drummer got engaged back in July, with the pair having started dating while working on Branch’s April 2017 album ‘Hopeless Romantic’ – which Carney both co-wrote and co-produced. The record was Branch’s first full-length LP since 2003’s ‘Hotel Paper’.

The couple have now revealed that they are expecting their first child. Posting a clip of the sonogram, Branch wrote on Instagram: “Well, we were just about to send out ‘Save The Dates’ for our wedding in May when we got this little surprise… wedding is postponed and Baby Carney is happening this summer! Patrick and I couldn’t be more excited!

Speaking about Carney’s involvement on her comeback album last year, Branch told Billboard: “This record wouldn’t have seen the light of day had he not been involved.”

“Pat has said: ‘I remember seeing you on MTV in the early 2000s and thinking you were really cute,’” she added. “It’s like, why couldn’t we have just met each other in our 20s? We would have saved so much heartache.”

Back in December, Carney paid tribute to his uncle and saxophonist Ralph Carney, who died at the age of 61.
