Miley Cyrus shares new song ‘Hands of Love’ – watch

The track features in a trailer for the movie 'Freeheld' out in early October

A new Miley Cyrus track has been launched along with the trailer for the movie ‘Freeheld’, which is due in cinemas October 2.

The release follows Cyrus’ collaborative, psychedelic effort with The Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne ‘Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz‘, a 90-minute album released in late August.

The movie is based on the true story of a lesbian couple Stacie Andree and Laurel Hester (played by Ellen Page and Julianne Moore), who engaged in a legal battle with New Jersey county officials over the rights to Hester’s police pension after she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2005. Hester passed away in 2006.

This latest Miley release was written by Linda Perry, whose previous work includes tracks recorded by Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera, as well as work with Courtney Love and Kelly Osbourne.

The trailer – which is a touch over a minute in length – gives only a brief clip of the track, alongside key scenes from the film.

Speaking of ‘Freeheld’, Cyrus highlighted that her involvement is intended to extend a message about equal rights, telling Time “People like to learn through entertainment. It’s an interactive way to get people to hear your message by putting it in a song they like to listen to, or a film they want to see.”
