Miley Cyrus claims that Elvis Presley was ‘the original twerker’

Singer attacks double standards over male and female musician's behaviour

Miley Cyrus has claimed that Elvis Presley was the original twerker and criticised the media’s double standards in criticising male and female behaviour.

Cyrus made the comparison in a new interview with Australian TV show Sunday Night. Speaking to host Chris Bath in an interview that will air in full tomorrow (August 31), Cyrus says that her on-stage movement is no different to that of Elvis in the 1950s, only people would never criticise him.

“Elvis, he wasn’t wearing the outfits I was wearing but he was coming out and he was doing like the OG twerking… Like, no one wants to admit that he was twerking, he was,” says Cyrus.

“He was like sex. He was a symbol of sex but no one would have ever called Elvis a shit because he wasn’t a girl,” she continues. “It’s that double standard and I think I’m doing something for the double standard.”

Earlier this week the homeless man Miley Cyrus took to the MTV VMAs in a bid to highlight homelessness among young people in America was forced to hand himself in to police. Jesse Helt was wanted in his native Oregon for a probation violation.

Helt has now turned himself in and posted $2,500 bail at the Polk County Jail. He will be expected to appear before a judge in about two weeks. Helt’s mother gave an interview to a local newspaper saying that that her son had flown back after the VMAs using money given to him by Cyrus.
