Mini Mansions have spoken out about their “naughty” video for new single ‘Vertigo’, which features Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner.
The clip for the track was released earlier this week, and features the band and Turner alongside a number of topless models.
Speaking to NME at SXSW in Austin, Texas this weekend (March 21), drummer and guitarist Michael Shuman explained the idea behind the video, saying: “It’s naughty. It’s very naughty. Almost every shot is based on an old horror movie or Italian horror movies.”
He continued: “The guy who made it basically ripped off every shot based off of something else. We did a bunch of weird shit – that’s what we like doing and then see what he does with it. The night before, we played a private party, which was really fucking weird and we were all really hungover when we got there in the morning. There were all these naked models. It was just a weird, surreal thing, and that’s the kind of video it is.”
Mini Mansions’ second album ‘The Great Pretenders’ was released on Monday (March 23) via T Bone Burnett’s Electromagnetic Recordings label and features a guest appearance from the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, alongside Turner.
The band are set to tour the US with Royal Blood – who they recently supported on their UK tour – and Tame Impala this summer. The trio currently have no concrete plans to return to the UK, with Shuman explaining: “We’re trying to figure that out. We’ve down three tours already supporting, just in the last four months. The Lexington show we did was so fun so we really wanna do it. There’s festivals so we’ll do all those.”
