Record label searches for singer with world’s lowest voice

Decca want a vocalist capable of nailing deepest bass notes ever

Record label Decca have launched a search for the singer with the world’s deepest voice.

According to The Press Association, the label need a vocalist capable of belting out a note so low it is thought to have never been sung by a human voice before which features in a new composition by Paul Mealor (above), who also penned last year’s Christmas Number One ‘Wherever You Go’ for the Military Wives Choir.

Whoever is chosen to sing on the track, which is called ‘De Profoundis’, will be required to produce a low E note, which is almost three octaves lower than a middle C on the piano. Music Week claims that the lowest note previously produced by a human voice is a low F sharp, which was recorded by American singer Roger Menees in 2010.

Mealor said:

My setting of ‘De Profoundis’ calls for a rich and powerful voice. A voice than can not only touch the heart with its sincerity and truth, but also make every fabric of the human body resonate as it plunges into the very lowest parts of the vocal spectrum.

Singers who wish to audition to perform on the track can either send their demo tapes to Decca, or upload an example of their vocal abilities to Howlowwillyougo.com.
