A minute’s silence was held in memory of the nine people who died at ROSKILDE FESTIVAL in DENMARK last weekend before Moby played at T IN THE PARK last night (July 8).
Promoted from the second stage to headliner of the main stage late last week because of fears of overcrowding and safety hazards which were raised after the Roskilde tragedy, he specially requested that the silence be observed out of respect for the fans of Pearl Jam who died in the crush at the front of the stage at the festival near Copenhagen last weekend.
Promoter of T In The Park, Stuart Clumpas of DF Concerts, went on stage before Moby and explained that before the tragedy, Saturday’s gigs were expected to finish after Ocean Colour Scene. He said: “Everyone expects to go home at the end of the night, and as a mark of respect to those who died in Denmark I’d ask you to mark a minute’s silence.” The silence which fell over the crowd was perfectly observed, and was timed by Stuart Clumpas. Following the silence, Moby arrived on stage and rounded off the day’s perfomances.
