The record was released yesterday (March 16), following on from 2007’s ‘We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank’ – the band’s only full-length effort with Johnny Marr as a member of the band.

‘Strangers To Ourselves’ features guest contributions from James Mercer (The Shins), Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy) and Dann Gallucci (Cold War Kids).

It was previously reported that former Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic would feature on the record. Speaking to Spotify, Novoselic revealed that his contribution is “pretty edgy”. He said: “I did a song with Modest Mouse earlier this year for their new record. It’s pretty edgy. I’ve got my big Gibson bass and a Rat distortion pedal busting out… this bass riff.”

Modest Mouse recently announced a short UK tour for July. The band will stop off at Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle before playing at T In The Park in July as part of a European tour.

Modest Mouse’s UK dates are as follows:

Birmingham The Institute (July 5)
Manchester The Ritz (7)
Leeds O2 Academy (8)
Newcastle O2 Academy (9)
