KYLIE KEPT FROM TOP BY FRENCH

French duo Modjo today maintained their position at the top of the UK single charts with ‘LADY (HEAR ME TONIGHT)’, becoming only the sixth act this year to hold on for more than one week.

The ,b>Ibiza smash prevented Kylie Minogue from getting her second number one of the year. ‘On A Night Like This’, the follow-up to ‘Spinning Around’, charted at number two. ber-popsters S Club 7 went in at three with ‘Natural’ while trance act Aurora hit number five with a cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’. And the highly fancied Sugababes justified much of the talk surrounding them by hitting number six with ‘Overload’.

Further down the chart some of the UK’s biggest music names did not fare so well. Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft went in at 21 with ‘C’Mon People (We’re Making It Now)’ while Finley Quaye’s comeback single ‘Spiritualized’ could only manage a disappointing 26. Primal Scream’s ‘Accelerator’, the final ever single to be released through the now defunct Creation label went in at 34.

Meanwhile, there was little movement on the album charts. Robbie Williams stuck to the top for a third week with ‘Sing When You’re Winning’ and Eminem and David Gray, amongst others, lent it a familiar look. The only new entries this week came from Greatest Hits packages. The Doors went in at number nine and Jimi Hendrix, who is dead 30 years tomorrow (September 18), hit number ten.
