LIFE’S RICH PAJO!

The duo run through a series of cover versions to delight the local indie cognoscenti....

MOGWAI frontman STUART BRAITHWAITE appeared onstage alongside former SLINT mainman DAVID PAJO at a low-key gig at NICE N’ SLEAZY in GLASGOW last night (January 24).

The pair duetted on a number of tracks, including a version of Blind Willie Johnson’s ‘You’re Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond’.

Braithwaite first played a warm-up set which consisted of four covers, including Joy Division’s ‘Insight’, Leonard Cohen’s ‘Bird on A Wire’ and Bob Dylan’s

‘North Country Blues’. The set was completed by a couple of Mogwai tunes – ‘Tuner’ and a new one which Braithwaite later told NME.COM was omitted from their forthcoming album, which NME.COM exclusively revealed last week looks likely to be titled ‘The Exorcist III’.

David Pajo took the stage along with Braithwaite, and the two worked together on an elaborate guitar piece which was untitled, fuelling speculation that the two have been collaborating on material. Pajo also acoustically performed three tunes written by New Jersey punks The Misfits, including ‘Last Caress’, plus a track,

‘Lyric’, which appeared on the ‘Curse Of The Mekons’ album. However, no Slint or Papa M material was aired, to the disappointment of the local post-rock cognoscenti, which numbered members of tipped Scots newcomers Sputniks Down and Empire Builder.
