Morrissey: ‘Scottish voters must cut ties with the United King-dumb’

Singer also takes aim at Jamie Oliver and discusses his ill-health in new interview

Morrissey has stated that Jamie Oliver should be “gassed by Princess Anne” and urged Scottish voters to separate from the rest of the UK in a typically outspoken interview.

The quotes come from Irish publication Hot Press, via Rolling Stone and see Morrissey touch on controversial subjects including animal rights, Scottish independence and his own recent run of bad health.

Urging Scottish voters to Vote Yes in the September referendum, Morrissey said: “They must cut ties with the United King-dumb. I love Scotland, and I love the Scottish spirit and they do not need Westminster in the least.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Oliver has become the latest figure of criticism of Morrissey’s battle against meat eaters; “It would be a great help if Princess Anne gassed Jamie Oliver,” he said. “He’s killed more animals than McDonald’s.”

Detailing his ill-health, which saw a number of US tour dates scrapped earlier this year, he added: “The worst was in June in Boston, when I was hospitalized with acute fever. I was delirious for six hours, talking absolute nonsense and unable to stop. I’ve never been so frightened in my life. Then, of course, you get these bitchy comments for having to cancel shows…. I’ve been to so many hospitals lately that there’s hardly any point in my leaving.”

The singer previously said that criticism of his 2013 biography does not affect him.

Last month Morrissey denied claims made by Bradley Steyn, after he alleged that he was asked in his position as security guard to “hurt” the man in charge of Morrissey fansite, Morrissey-Solo. Morrissey denied the claims and stated that Steyn’s statement is now in the hands of the Los Angeles Police Department.

More recently Morrissey criticised his record label, Harvest Records, over a perceived lack of support with his music videos from new album ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business’.
