Lee pleaded no-contest to the spousal abuse offence, which occured on February 24 this year at their Malibu, California home. Anderson Lee, the former Baywatch star, was holding the couple’s seven-week-old son Dylan at the time.
Lee was taken from the Malibu courtroom in handcuffs to commence his sentence. He had originally faced other charges of child abuse and unlawful possession of a firearm, the latter a parole violation arising from an earlier assault on a photographer in 1996, but these were later dropped after he agreed to plead no-contest to the spousal abuse charge.
Anderson Lee, who is divorcing her husband, pleaded for the drummer not to be sent to jail, but Judge Lawrence Mira disagreed. He said: “What I see here is a very clear, disturbing, in my judgement, pattern of conduct in which otherwise resolvable issues are handled with violence… and that is intolerable in any kind of civilised society.”
As well as his jail sentence, Lee also received a three year probation, and has been ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and donate (US)$5,000 to a shelter for battered women. He has also been banned from using drugs and alcohol, and must stay at least 100 yards away from his estranged wife.
If he violates any of the parole terms, he could face an extra three years in jail.
