Download Festival renames main stage in memory of Lemmy

Metal festival has also added 36 new bands to 2016 line-up

Download Festival organisers have confirmed that they have renamed its main stage after Lemmy, the Motorhead frontman who passed away last year.

Motorhead were due to perform at Download 2016 but pulled out after Lemmy died of cancer in December. ‘The Lemmy Stage’ this year will be headlined by Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Black Sabbath with festival boss Andy Copping stating that “a suitable tribute” to Lemmy will also take place.

Lemmy’s trademark black cap will remain on the festival line-up poster in the place where Motörhead were due to perform at this year’s event.


Meanwhile, another 36 bands have been added to the Download 2016 line-up including Jane’s Addiction, NOFX, Bury Tomorrow and Sixx A.M.

Joining recent additions Korn, Deftones and Disturbed on the festival, which takes place between June 10-12, will be Jane’s Addiction, NOFX, Sixx:A.M., Alien Ant Farm and Amon Amarth.


Anti-Flag and Escape The Fate are also new to the bill as are Periphery, Electric Wizard, Monster Truck, Graveyard, Municipal Waste, One OK Rock and Heck.

As Lions, Grand Magus, Whiskey Myers, Heck, Zoax, Hill Valley High, Danko Jones, Turbowolf, Black Peaks, Shvpes, The King Is Blind, Kadavar, Municipal Waste, Cane Hill, Slaves , Wage War, Palisades, Reigning Days, Strange Bones, Good Tiger, Ashestoangels, The Kenneths and Muncie Girls round off the new additions.

Download 2016 takes place on June 10-12, 2016 at the “spiritual home of rock” in Donington Park, Leicestershire.

Ozzy Osbourne‘s band, Black Sabbath, will headline Saturday night (June 11), while Iron Maiden headline Sunday night (June 12). Rammstein bring their elaborate pyrotechnics to the stage on June 10.


Download 2015 was headlined by Muse, Kiss and Slipknot with Faith No More, Judas Priest, Mötley Crüe and Marilyn Manson also on the bill.
