Band beat off competition from Plan B, Take That, The xx and Tinie Tempah
Mumford & Sons‘ ‘Sigh No More’ won the MasterCard British Album Of The Year at the Brit Awards 2011 tonight (February 15).
The band were presented with the gong by The Who frontman Roger Daltrey at the London O2 Arena ceremony.
Frontman Marcus Mumford said that the band were “very honoured, very humbled” to win the award, adding: “This is very bizarre, very strange.”
Mumford & Sons also performed earlier in the evening, playing a stripped down version of ‘Timshel’.
The other MasterCard Album Of The Year nominees were:
Plan B – ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks’
Take That – ‘Progress’
Tinie Tempah – ‘Discovery’
The xx – ‘The xx’
