Mumford & Sons reach UK and US million sales landmark

Band become the first UK act since Coldplay to pass milestone

Mumford and Sons have become the first British band since 2009 to sell a million copies of one album in both the UK and US.

The last UK band to achieve this milestone was Coldplay, with their 2008 album ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’. Now the London band have achieved it with their 2009 debut ‘Sigh No More’.

According to Music Week, sales of ‘Sigh No More’ have been boosted by the band’s high profile appearances at the Grammy awards ceremony. Sales of the album increased by 99 per cent in the US after that performance, and their appearance at the Brit Awards last month gave them a UK sales increase of 266 per cent.
