Mumford & Sons set to replace Blur at Number One in UK Album Chart

New entries also come from JME, Palma Violets and Django Django

Mumford and Sons are set to be Number One in the Official UK Album Chart this week with their new album ‘Wilder Mind’ leading the sales figures at the midweek stage.

The band released their third album on Monday (May 4). The album sees the band ditch their country roots for a rockier sound, having worked with Arctic Monkeys producer James Ford and demoed songs with Aaron Desner of The National.

‘Wilder Mind’ is outselling the current Number One, Blur’s ‘The Magic Whip’, with Sia’s ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’ jumping ten places to Number Three so far this week. Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ bounces back into the Top Five at four, and Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ is at Five.

Also new in the Top 10 at today’s midweek point is ‘Integrity’, the new album from grime MC JME. The Boy Better Know member is new at Number Eight today.

Other new entries in this week’s Official Album Chart at today’s midweek stage include Django Django (14), Lucy Spraggan (17), Palma Violets (21), My Morning Jacket (29), Ciara (30) and Jethro Tull (31).

Meanwhile, in the Official UK Singles Chart, OMI’s reggae-pop hit ‘Cheerleader’ is competing with current Number One, Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’, for this week’s Official Singles Chart top spot. ‘Cheerleader’ is currently 5,000 sales ahead of Khalifa and his Fast & Furious tribute track

The full chart rundown is announced on BBC Radio 1 this Sunday (May 10).
