Muse cancel São Paulo show due to illness but say Lollapalooza should go ahead ‘as planned’

The band are also due to headline Coachella Festival later this month

Muse have cancelled tonight’s show at São Paulo’s Grand Metropole (April 3) due to illness.

However, they have added that their Lollapalooza set at this weekend’s festival – also in São Paulo, Brazil – should go ahead ‘as planned’. At Muse.mu, the band broke the news to fans, writing:

“To our fans in Brazil, It is with great sadness that we have to cancel the show tomorrow (Thursday 3rd April) at Grand Metropole here in São Paulo due to illness. It is our hope that with the additional rest, we will be able to assure the Lollapalooza show on Saturday goes ahead as planned… With Regret, Matt, Dom, and Chris”.

The band are also due to headline two weekends of the Coachella Festival in California later this month.

At the end of 2013, the band said they were at work on their new album. “I’ve written some good tracks, actually,” frontman Matt Bellamy told Triple J. “We haven’t had a chance to rehearse them out yet. We’ll take a break next year for a little few months and then we’ll get in the studio. If it all goes very well, the new album could well be early 2015 or late 2015. Christmas 2014 might be [when we release] our next single.”

The frontman had previously suggested that the album would be a more stripped back sound than their recent work. Bellamy said he wants to “reconnect” with the oldest elements of Muse and that he is keen to experiment less on the new songs.
