My Morning Jacket make Oxegen debut

US band grace Pet Sounds Arena in a cape

My Morning Jacket made their Oxegen debut today (July 12) with a well-received set at the festival’s Pet Sounds Arena.

The US band, who have rarely performed live in Ireland, played a seven-song set, most of which was taken from their critically acclaimed 2005 album ‘Z’.

Frontman Jim James donned a black cape as he arrived onstage to a rapturous reception, before opening the band’s set with ‘One Big Holiday’, from 2003’s ‘It Still Moves’ album.

He proceeded to don the cape when not playing guitar, wearing it on the warmly received ‘Wordless Chorus’ and ‘Laylow’.

The band played only two songs from current album ‘Evil Urges’.

The title track came midway through the show, while set closer ‘Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Part 2’ saw the band end their Irish festival debut by running offstage during the song’s sampled ending.

My Morning Jacket played:

‘One Big Holiday’

‘Off The Record’

‘Wordless Chorus’

‘Evil Urges’

‘Anytime’

‘Laylow’

‘Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Part 2’
