My Morning Jacket have confirmed they’re working on two new studio albums.
The Kentucky band last released a LP in 2011 in the form of ‘Circuital’. Their two new records will be their seventh and eighth respectively.
“I just had tons of songs this time,” Jim James told Rolling Stone of the dual release. “We didn’t even get to all of them.”
The frontman said that the band have 24 “solid contenders” that may eventually end up on the full-lengths. The first effort will be released in April 2015, with its follow-up coming sometime in 2016.
“I love making each record sound different,” James added. “I love the thrill of putting on a record and feeling like you got the wrong one from the factory.”
Jim James also told Rolling Stone that he’s working on his follow-up to 2013 solo record ‘Regions of Light and Sound of God’, also due in 2016.
James recently formed a supergroup with the likes of Elvis Costello and Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons, releasing ‘Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes’ last month, an album of tracks made up of unused lyrics written by Bob Dylan during his 1967 ‘Basement Tapes’ sessions.
