Singer reveals band will be "finished" soon and he wants to focus on solo career
N-Dubz member Dappy has confirmed that the band will split up in the next two years.
The singer/rapper, who will release his debut solo single ‘No Regrets’ on September 19, has revealed that the trio have decided to release a greatest hits compilation and will then disband so they can focus on their solo careers.
With his bandmate and cousin Tulisa Contostavlos currently starring as a judge on the latest series of The X Factor and with Dappy considering releasing a solo album, he told The Mirror that the band would most likely be “finished” within the next 18 months to two years.
The band is definitely going to quiet down for the next year-and-a-half to two years. We may release some stuff every six months but it will definitely be quieter. Then, at the end of that period, we will do a ‘Greatest Hits’ or ‘Best of N-Dubz’. Then that’ll be it: finished.
Dappy also revealed his plans for his solo career, claiming he would release a solo album when “the buzz is ready”, and that he wants to collaborate with Rihanna.
It would be a dream for me to get a couple of Number Ones. Then after that, when I feel I’ve done big enough for my singles, I’ll feel that the buzz is big enough to release an album. You don’t ever release an album when a label says you should release it. I release it when I feel the buzz is ready. On my album I’m trying to get Rihanna. She knows what I’m doing and she’s heard it.
N-Dubz member Fazer has also recently spoken of working on a solo album and has claimed to be working with Katy Perry, Rihanna and Tinie Tempah on the record.
Last month, N-Dubz left their American label Def Jam, with Dappy accusing them of trying to turn the band into “silly pop tarts”.
