The Beat Summer Jam 2002 in California descends into chaos...
A Californian rap and hip-hop concert featuring NELLY, SNOOP DOGG, LL COOL J and JA RULE collapsed into chaos yesterday (August 11) when a fight broke out and spilled onto the main stage, forcing the police to break up the show early and send 15,000 fans home.
The Beat Summer Jam 2002, an annual event hosted by radio station 100.3 The Beat, started around noon at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine. At around 7.30pm the brawl erupted and overwhelmed security guards called the police. Officers from six police agencies as well as County sheriff’s deputies responded, Associated Press reports.
The plug was pulled half an hour before the show was due to close, just before headliner Nelly was due to perform his set. The site was cleared by 9pm.
No arrests were made and only three people were slightly injured, one of whom needed hospital treatment.
It is unclear what sparked the ruck.
