Nelly Furtado ‘inconsolable’ after Oasis split

She says the band meant the world to her

Nelly Furtado has spoken of her distress at hearing Noel Gallagher had left Oasis.

The Portuguese-Canadian pop star revealed to the Mail On Sunday that she was a massive fan of the band, and even used to write letters to Liam Gallagher as a teenager asking him to go out with her.

“I was inconsolable when Oasis split up,” Furtado admitted. “That band meant the world to me. As a 16-year-old I would write letters to Liam with my photo attached and pray that he would ask me out on a date, but he never did.”

She also admitted that Oasis‘ 1995 hit ‘Wonderwall’ was one of the first songs she learned to play on guitar.

She said: “At college I learned to play guitar to ‘Wonderwall’. Oasis were everything I loved about pop music. They could express emotions with the most simple song structures. They had the kind of brash attitude I could completely relate to.”

Furtado went on to reveal that she had a breakdown in the early stages of her career, saying she “felt like a fraud” after two years of constant partying.
