The duet will take place at a post-Oscars bash...

NELLY FURTADO is set to follow in the footsteps of AXL ROSE, the SPICE GIRLS and GEORGE MICHAEL by joining forces with ELTON JOHN and singing a duet with him, this time at a post-OSCARS bash – NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The Queen Mum of Pop, who tested even his most loyal fans by what could politely be described as an entertaining reading of ‘Stan’ with controversial rapper Eminem at the Grammy Awards last month, will join the Canadian songstress to sing her current hit ‘I’m Like A Bird’, at his own party in Los Angeles on Oscar night, which benefits his charity the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The 22-year-old Canadian newcomer blurted out the secret backstage at last week’s Juno Awards, the awards ceremony of the Canadian music industry, where the elated star won Best Single, Best New Solo Artist and Best Songwriter.

The gala celebration will be sponsored by Chopard Jewelers and Style Magazine, and Furtado will perform five songs, before Reg joins her on her smash single.

It will be the ninth year that Elton John has hosted Oscar night’s biggest and best-known fund-raiser. The party, attended by the Hollywood and music industry elite, will be held at chic Los Angeles nightclub Moomba. Since 1992, over $22 million has been distributed by the non-profit organisation for those living with HIV/AIDS.

Elton also performs with Boyzone star Ronan Keating at the Meteor Irish Music Awards at the Dublin Point tomorrow (Friday March 16).
