Kelis, the musical outlet of producers THE NEPTUNES, debuted new material from their as-yet untitled second album during a sold-out show in BOSTON on Monday night (June 3).
Taking to the Paradise Rock Club stage, Kelis front man Pharrell Williams, backed by a four-piece band, Spymob (a signing to The Neptunes’ Star Track Entertainment roster) and sidekick Shay performed a slew of songs from debut album ‘In Search Of…’ before introducing new song, ‘Not The Way’, an up-tempo, Stevie Wonder-ish pop-song with a touch of the trademark Neptunes sound.
Kelis also surprised the crowd by bringing out long-time Neptunes associate [/a] to sing ‘Truth or Dare’ mid-set. [a] remained on stage for versions of ‘Popular Thug’ and ‘Junkie’ from her latest album ‘Wanderland’, which is yet to be released in the States.
During the encore, William sang portions of both Jay-Z ‘s ‘I Just Wanna Love You (Give It To Me)’ and [a][/a] ‘ ‘Pass The Courvoisier Part II’, both of which he produced.
The Neptunes are famous for their production work withBritney Spears, Ludacris, Mystikal, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and countless others artists. This is their first tour. Chad Hugo, one-half of the duo, did not appear at the show.
