Chad Kroeger says he doesn’t care about ‘the world’s opinion’ of his wedding to Avril Lavigne

The couple have also revealed that they actually got together on Canada Day

Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger has spoken about the media’s reaction to his engagement to Avril Lavigne.

Last month a spokeswoman for the couple, who have been dating for six months, confirmed the pair plan to marry and got engaged earlier this month. They met in February when they co-wrote a song for Lavigne’s fifth studio album.

The singer has said that he’s not the least bit bothered by the bafflement that greeted the announcement and he doesn’t care about ”the world’s opinion’ of his relationship as he and Lavigne are “both very happy”.

Speaking to People Magazine, Kroeger said: “I try not to take too much interest in the world’s opinion of our relationship. I just know the both of us are very happy.”

Kroeger also confirmed that the start of their relationship has a patriotic tinge as they actually started dating on Canada Day, which is on July 1. He said of this: “We think it’s very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can’t wait to start our life together.”

Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, but they split after three years of marriage in 2009. She went on to date American TV star Brody Jenner, who is Kim Kardashian’s stepbrother, but they broke up at the beginning of 2012.

Kroeger, who is 10 years Lavigne’s senior, has never been married before.
