Nicki Minaj responds to criticism over controversial Halloween Instagram video

Artist uploaded video in which she appears to tell person pretending to be disabled person to 'walk'

Nicki Minaj has defended herself from criticism she received after sharing a video in which she appeared to tell a disabled person in a wheelchair to walk.

Minaj posted a clip over the weekend of herself laughing and pointing a wand at a person in a mobility scooter before an individual saying “walk!”. She was dressed as a fairy godmother in the clip which has now been deleted.

Gossip websites, including Perez Hilton, claimed that Minaj had been ridiculing a disabled person in the video, but the star later took to social media to deny these claims.

“Lol. That’s NOT a disabled person and u know that. Are u that desperate for attention?” Minaj tweeted, before claiming the individual to be her friend in a scooter.

Minaj later claimed that people had become “desensitized” when posting a picture of a man dressed as Bill Cosby and one of his alleged victims. Cosby has been accused of historically drugging and abusing over 30 women this year.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift discussed her recent falling out with Nicki Minaj during a cover feature for the new free NME.

Swift and Minaj clashed earlier this year after the former mistook rapper Minaj’s wide-ranging criticism of the MTV VMAs to be specifically about her.

Asked about the incident by NME, Swift was reluctant to discuss things further but did explain how she intends to deal with similar conflicts in future.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she said. “But I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone’s management, I get their number and I text them. It’s an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015.”
