Rapper targets fans on dating app ahead of US live dates
Nicki Minaj is using the gay dating app Grindr to promote her new tour.
The US hip-hop artist will hit the road on the Pinkprint tour later this year and is targeting fans online as they use the app with ticket offers and general promotion of the live dates.
As Billboard reports, Minaj took out an advert on Grindr telling users “it kicks off tomorrow. Can’t wait to see you all there!”.
The tour begins today (July 17) and runs for a month, taking in 19 cities around North America. Meek Mill, Tinashe, Rae Sremmurd, and DeJ Loaf as supporting acts.
Minaj is not the first musician to use a dating app as a means of promotion. Earlier this year Mariah Carey set up a Match.com profile to reveal the video for new single ‘Infinity’. Meanwhile, both Jason Derulo and Zedd have used Tinder to promote their music. Madonna has also reached fans on Grindr, offering one user the chance to speak to her in February.
Earlier this month Nicki Minaj missed her entire set at London’s Wireless Festival after arriving to the site two hours late.
She was due to perform on the main stage at 7pm BST, however she did not appear until 9.30pm, cutting headliner David Guetta’s set short in the process.
Guetta began his performance at 8.30pm, before Minaj joined him for a 30 minute medley of hits including ‘Anaconda’, ‘Feeling Myself’ and more.
When she did make it to the stage, Minaj reportedly told the crowd: “Our plane couldn’t get out because of the weather but I want to tell you how much I fucking love y’all. I want to tell you how much I appreciate you guys for showing up from day one.”
Minaj had been performing in Denmark the night before.
