Nicki Minaj has released a 16-minute short film that features three tracks taken from her latest album ‘The Pinkprint’. Click above to watch.
‘The Pinkprint Movie’ is directed by Taylor Cohen and Francesco Carrozzini, and stars Minaj as a woman experiencing the breakdown of a relationship. The piece is divided into three parts –’The Crying Game’, ‘I Lied’ and ‘Grand Piano’ – with each section scored by the album track of the same name.
Minaj’s recent videos have caused a stir for a variety of reasons. The lyric promo to ‘Only’ sparked criticism from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), who claimed the piece bears a resemblance to Nazi propaganda films, with the red banners and soldiers wearing red armbands being similar to Nazi iconography. Minaj later apologised to anyone who had been offended. The main video, later released, sees Minaj play a dominatrix who tortures her male victims in an underground sex dungeon.
Elsewhere in August the video to Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ broke Vevo’s record for most views within the first 24 hours of release. The video received 19.6 million hits in the day following its release.
