The new Nine Inch Nails album – called ‘The Fragile’ – will be released in June, the long awaited follow up to 1994’s ‘The Downward Spiral’ and according to a report in USA Today, it will be Trent Reznor‘s most commercial work yet.
“It’s not as knee-jerk muscle flexingly angry,” he said. “I’m less concerned with going out of my way to make it unlistenable. I’m approaching music as art, but part of my head is tuned into the hooks of AM radio.”
Reznor has recorded 20 tracks with another 25 demoed at his high-tech New Orleans studio and he’s considering releasing a 150 minute double album with one CD of vocal and one of intrumental music.
“Imagine Tom Waits on a bayou filtered through a funk blender and slowed down,” he said of the new sound.
The album, which is eagerly anticipated in the US, has been promoted with teaser ads on American TV and in magazines with just the word “ninetynine” in the distinctive NIN typeface with the reversed letter ‘n’.
