Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor hints at plans to release new music this year

The singer reveals work has begun on "a new product"

Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor has teased fans in an interview with Rolling Stone there could be new music on the way as early as this year.

The frontman, who is also chief creative officer for new streaming service Beats Music, told the magazine work on the new project would run simultaneously with the group’s touring plans, although Reznor declined to give any concrete details on his endeavours.

Reznor said: “We’re leaving to go to tour mid-to-late February, in Australia with Queens [of the Stone Age]. We’ve got dates booked through the end of the summer. A lot of touring ahead. Just started on a new product. Can’t tell you what it is yet. It will take place while touring. New music maybe this fall. Every spare second, and even seconds that aren’t spare, are trying to wrangle this new creation into shape.” When asked to reveal more, he replied: “That’s more than I should’ve.”

Earlier this week (January 22), it was announced that Reznor would provide the score for David Fincher’s forthcoming adaptation of Gone Girl. Reznor will work with frequent collaborator Atticus Ross on the soundtrack for the big screen version of Gillian Flynn’s novel, he revealed on Twitter.

The film tells the tale of a man accused of murdering his wife after she goes missing on their fifth anniversary and stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. It opens in cinemas in the US on October 3.

Reznor and Ross have previously scored two films for Fincher – 2010’s The Social Network and 2011’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails will close the Grammy Awards ceremony tonight (January 26), where they will perform with Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham for a special performance.
