Reading And Leeds Festival boss Melvin Benn hits back at Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor

Benn says 'there's no truth' in the electro-veteran's statement

Reading And Leeds Festival boss Melvin Benn has hit back at Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor after he said they had been “fucked” on the band’s production.

This afternoon, Reznor tweeted about tonight’s performance, saying: “Should be an unusual show tonight at Reading… the lying promoter and the band (Biffy Clyro) following us (whoever the fuck they are) fucked us on our production.” He wrote:

But Reading And Leeds Festival boss Melvin Benn has responded to Reznor’s tweets, saying “The truth is there’s no truth in the statement. The contract hasn’t changed since they signed up to it.” Asked if Reznor was perhaps feeling a bit sore about playing before a band he hadn’t heard of, he said “I couldn’t possibly comment.”

Earlier this week, Reznor told NME that his band’s brand new stage show, inspired by Talking Heads‘ 1983 Stop Making Sense tour, was redesigned from scratch to work outdoors. “In terms of physical components, it’s actually low-tech,” he said, speaking in this week’s NME, available available digitally and on newsstands. “It’s either going to be the best thing ever or a spectacular disaster.”

Reznor said nothing throughout his 75 minute set tonight as his band performed against a bank of blue lights, cloaked in heavy fog, creating a moody, intense atmosphere. The slow building set, which kicked off with new tracks ‘Copy Of A’ and ‘Came Back Haunted’, gradually ramped up into a stomping finale as they slammed through ‘Terrible Lie’, ‘March Of The Pigs’, ‘Survivalism’ and ‘Wish’.
