The instrument is the showpiece of a new exhibition to coincide with the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival…

KURT COBAIN’s guitar is going to be one of the main attractions of a new exhibition chronicling the long history of the CARLING WEEKEND: READING festival.

Featuring music, film, photographs and memorabilia from the musicians and fans, ‘Music, Mud and Mayhem – 30 years of the Reading Festival’ will take place at the Museum Of Reading between August 19 and November 28.

Other artefacts sitting alongside Cobain’s guitar from Nirvana‘s performance at the festival in 1992 include items from The Stranglers, Foo Fighters and Genesis.

The festival arrived in Reading in 1971 following its move from Plumpton in Sussex. Matthew Williams, museum curator said: “The festival has very much become part of life in Reading over the last 30 or so years. Almost everyone here is affected by it, either as fans or residents. It is a rite of passage that many young people go through and we are hoping to capture something of that sense of adventure in this exhibition.”

A virtual exhibition is available online at [url=]www.readingmuseum.org.uk/festival where you can search the A-Z of bands that have played the main stage.
