Virginia Tech student gets her wish granted – in a way – courtesy of indie label
Members of staff at US label Sub Pop have posed as Nirvana after a misguided fan of the band wrote to the label requesting that Kurt Cobain and co record a video message for a university football team in Virginia.
Earlier this week an unnamed fan, who claims to be the mascot for Virginia Tech, wrote to Sub Pop requesting that Nirvana “send a quick video” and say: “What up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you a Happy Homecoming week and good luck at the game this Saturday. Let’s Go Hokies!”
Not wanting to disappoint the girl, four members of the Sub Pop staff filmed a video of themselves giving the message and texted it to the girl. A screengrab of her reply to the label shows that she said: “You are the best, thank you guys, you are awesome,” upon receiving the video. See above to watch the video now.
The original request stated that Nirvana would join Ying Yang Twins and “three famous NFL players” in contributing to the video the fan is making in her bid to be named homecoming queen. However, it appears that the sender may not know who Nirvana are, referring to the three-piece band as “her” at one point in the message.
