Jailed R’n’B singer dies

Sean Levert was 39

Singer Sean Levert, son of O’Jays singer Eddie Levert, died in Cleveland, Ohio last night (March 30) after being taken to hospital following a medical emergency in jail.

The 39-year-old singer, whose father fronted the popular Philadelphia R&B band The O’Jays, was in jail for failing to pay child support.

Levert was reportedly rushed to Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland after falling ill at Cuyahoga County Jail.

An autopsy was conducted today (March 31), but no immediate cause of death was determined, reports the Associated Press. However, no evidence of foul play or trauma was discovered.

Levert suffered from high blood pressure and had been hallucinating in jail, said a spokesman for the Cuyahoga County‘s coroner’s office.

Levert and his brother Gerald Levert performed together in the band LeVert in the 1980s, putting out hits including ‘Baby I’m Ready’ and ‘Casanova’.
