Gary Barlow to front BBC One talent show seeking stars for Take That musical

'Let It Shine' will be presented by Graham Norton and Mel Giedyroyc

Gary Barlow has signed up to front a new BBC show that will discover five people to star in a musical based on the songs of Take That.

The weekend tea-time show, aptly titled ‘Let It Shine’ will be presented by Graham Norton and Mel Giedyroyc, and aims to discover five undiscovered individuals who are capable of taking on Take That’s songs in a musical called ‘The Band’.

Over the course of eight weeks, contenders will have to perform in front of both Barlow and a series of mystery celebrity judges for the chance to appear in the stage show – which is being developed by the Take That frontman and bandmates Howard Donald and Mark Owen.

Describing the show, Gary said: “Back in 1989 we were just a group of normal guys from Manchester who came together to become Take That.

“The secret to our success was that each of us brought something different to the group and that the five of us had real chemistry. Now, with Let It Shine, we’re looking for people from all walks of life to form another unique group who can recreate that magic.

“If you think you’ve got what it takes, we want to see it.”

The show is expected to launch on BBC next year, and will take the slot vacated by The Voice after it was bought by ITV last year.
