HYPE WILLIAMS, the man behind videos in recent years by MISSY ELLIOT, Puff Daddy, DMX, TUPAC SHAKUR and WILL SMITH is to create a ‘hip-hop soap opera’.

The director, real name Harold Williams has signed a deal with UPNto develop a pilot for the show. Reports from the US suggest the series, mooted as a hip-hop/urban ‘Melrose Place’, is slated for broadcast during autumn 2001.

As well as his video work in the past, which included Missy Elliot’s ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ and Busta Rhymes $3 million budgeted ‘What’s It Gonna Be?’, Williams’ has directed ‘Belly’, a full length feature starring a roll-call of hip-hop’s A-list including DMX, Method Man and TLC new mother T-Boz.
