The Ruts guitarist dies aged 56

Paul Fox passes away

The Ruts‘ guitarist Paul Fox has passed away, aged 56.

He was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer earlier this year and succumbed to the illness on Sunday (October 21) at home in Uxbridge.

Following his diagnosis at the end of May 2007, a benefit gig was organised featuring the likes of The Damned, Misty In Roots, The UK Subs and Tom Robinson.

During the show, the original members of The Ruts took to the stage with Henry Rollins.

In a statement, a spokesperson explained: “The night was a fitting tribute to one of our much underrated and unsung guitar heroes. Paul leaves behind his sons, Lawrence and William, and his wife, Sharon. He will be dearly missed.”

The Ruts‘ original vocalist Malcolm Owen died of a heroin overdose in 1980 following the release of the group’s debut ‘The Crack’.
