Pete Doherty joins line-up for David Gest’s Michael Jackson tribute gig

Libertine will appear with The Rumble Strips and The Temptations Review

Pete Doherty will perform a Michael Jackson cover as part of David Gest‘s ‘My Life! A Musical Concert Extravaganza’ evening at London‘s HMV Hammersmith Apollo this October, according to reports.

Doherty, who has long hailed Jackson as an icon, will perform a rendition of the singer’s 1982 track ‘Human Nature’ at the October 14 event. He’ll be backed on the track by The Rumble Strips and The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards.

Gest, who was lifelong friends with Jackson, will also air a previously unseen interview between him and the self-styled King Of Pop.

He said that the addition of the more contemporary artists to the bill, which is also set to include Freda Payne and Peter Andre was the “icing on the cake,” reports Teletext.co.uk.

“I’m thrilled to be joined by an all-star line-up of performers in celebrating his [Jackson]’s remarkable life and musical achievements.

“These are the artists who inspired Michael Jackson musically, as he had a great love of traditional soul music. Adding some of today’s contemporary musicians is just the icing on the cake.”

Shortly after Jackson’s death in June, Doherty attempted to pay tribute to him by covering ‘Billie Jean’, though he aborted the track partway through.
