Police investigate shooting at gig

After incident at Pretty Ricky Leicester show

Police are investigating a shooting following a gig by the American hip-hop group Pretty Ricky at Loughborough Students Union on Sunday night (March 11).

The incident left one man in hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, though his condition is not life-threatening.

The shooting apparently followed the release of a canister of CS gas during the gig, although it currently unclear how these two events are linked.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Taylor has appealed to the public for help in discovering exactly how the shooting came to happen.

He said: “It is important that we ascertain the circumstances leading up to the incident. If you were at the music event and witnessed the shooting incident or the gas canister discharge, or you have any information about who is involved, then I’d urge you to get in contact with us.”

The injured man is a student at the university who was working on the Union security stewarding team at the event. Six others were also injured in a scuffle that subsequently broke out after the shooting.

One 22-year old male has been arrested and is currently being questioned by the police.
