Santigold, Tori Amos to guest on new David Byrne album

Talking Heads legend gets some help from Fatboy Slim too

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has roped in a host of guest singers on his forthcoming Fatboy Slim-produced album – including Santigold and Roisin Murphy.

The LP, ‘Here Lies Love’, is a concept record that trails the life of Imelda Marcos, the widow of former Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Byrne and his producer, who also collaborated on Fatboy‘s recent ‘We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat’ album, which was credited to the Brighton Port Authority, are making good headway on the record.

Byrne told BBC 6 Music: “We’ve got three more singers who have still to record on it but we’re almost there.

“There is a different singer on every song – including Sharon Jones (from Amy Winehouse‘s backing band The Dap Tones), Alice Russell and Tori Amos.

“There’s a lot of singers, it goes on and on.”

Byrne is performing at London‘s Royal Festival Hall over Easter weekend (April 12 and 13) as part of the Ether festival – playing songs from throughout his career that he has collaborated on with Brian Eno, from Talking Heads‘ late-’70s output through to 2008’s ‘Everything That Will Happen Will Happen Today’.

It was also strongly rumoured Eno may join Byrne onstage at those shows, but Eno himself told The Guardian last month: “It’s his show. For me to wander on and toodle around – I couldn’t think of a way to do that gracefully.”
